pursue joy always.
Party Proper is a Santa Barbara-based entertainment agency and sound production house. We provide live bands, string ensembles, DJs, and full sound engineering for weddings and private events. Run by a husband and wife who know Santa Barbara, its venues, and how much a thoughtfully run production shapes the way an event is actually felt.
we build the entertainment and sound experiences for our clients, and that work takes many forms.
We produce all kinds of live music and DJ sets, and we provide the sound engineering support that makes each one land. No two events should look alike, so no two of ours do.
Joy is a multifaceted thing. It might be an ecstatic gospel choir that has the whole room on its feet. It might be a groovy soul band that turns a dinner into a dance party. It might be a transcendent DJ set that carries the crowd deeper and deeper into the night.
Other moments call for a different kind of energy. An electric live band with a heavy emphasis on disco can fill a ballroom with motion. An intimate garden-style mixer, with a sultry jazz combo under the lights, can be just as memorable in its own quiet way.
Every event begins with a conversation about what the day should feel like. We ask questions, listen closely, and shape the music, the timing, and the atmosphere around the people who will be in the space. The vision belongs to you, and our job is to make it sound and feel right.
We don't work alone. We collaborate closely with your planner, your venue, and you to curate a complete, end-to-end experience. Every detail, from the first song to the final sound check, is considered together, so nothing is left to chance.
If you can picture it, we can achieve it. And if you can't picture it yet, that's exactly what our first conversation is for. Bring your half-formed ideas, your favorite songs, and your hopes for the night, and we'll help turn them into something real. Something joyful.

we're kayla and andrew. partners in this for over a decade, producing some of the most elevated events in santa barbara and beyond.
We started this business believing something almost naively simple: that music can make a room full of people feel like they belong to each other. That music can transform a space with energy, craft, risk-taking and precision. Music can uplift, music can heal, music can create an intense sense of joy.
Ten years and hundreds of events later, we still believe in the transformative power of music. As our events have grown in scale and scope, we've kept the passion and joy that started it all, and paired it with an obsession for professional, precise, and innovative sound engineering.
Not all artists can produce events, and not all event producers can create epic entertainment experiences. We pride ourselves on doing both.
What we strive for is an intensely tailored experience, unique to each event, while maintaining a light, joyful experience throughout the process.
We had a really specific, non-traditional music brief and they brought it to life even better than we ever could have imagined. Kayla and Andrew were the best to work with - incredibly kind, responsive, thoughtful, and very fun! We had the time of our lives, and so did all our friends and family who attended. Thanks, Kayla and Andrew!!!”
